Strengthening language through reading,

writing and meaningful discussions

INDEPENDENT SPEAKER

Read, Write and Discuss

Express ideas through reading and writing

Ages 9-11

Read, Write and Discuss is designed for children who are ready to use English more independently and thoughtfully.

In this class, children develop a deeper relationship with language through reading, discussion, and creative writing, building the skills needed to express ideas with clarity and confidence.

Structured like a book club, children are introduced to a variety of age-appropriate texts and genres. Through guided discussion, they learn to analyse what they read, share opinions, ask thoughtful questions, and develop stronger comprehension and critical thinking skills.

Vocabulary and grammar are expanded naturally through meaningful use, rather than isolated exercises. Alongside reading, children apply their ideas through writing. They explore alternative endings, create their own texts, and learn how to organise thoughts clearly on paper. Creativity and imagination are encouraged, while children also develop presentation and speaking skills in a supportive, language-rich environment.

This class supports children in becoming confident readers, writers, and communicators, using English as a tool for thinking, discussion, and learning across subjects.

FAQs for Read, Write & Discuss

This class is ideal for children aged 9–11 who can already speak English but need support expressing their ideas more clearly and confidently.

Children develop reading comprehension, structured writing, and the ability to discuss ideas confidently. They learn how to explain opinions, ask questions, and communicate more effectively.

Both are developed together. Speaking remains central, as children discuss what they read and share their ideas, while writing helps them organise and express their thoughts more clearly.

Grammar is developed through meaningful use. Children improve accuracy naturally as they read, write, and speak, with guidance from the teacher where needed
